The Timothy Rodney Long Memorial Scholarship

In 2015, Sweet Candy Café established the Timothy R. Long Memorial Scholarship in loving memory of store co-founder, Tim Long, who unexpectedly passed away in 2014.   The scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student attending a New Jersey Preparatory Catholic school associated with the Essex Catholic Alumni Association.  Tim, an Essex Catholic High School Class of 1992 graduate, credited the school for shaping his life and helping him achieve his career goals. Although the school closed in 2003, Sweet Candy Café  ensures that Tim's memory will be honored and preserved by helping a very deserving child receive a sound educational foundation to launch a successful career. Tim was inducted into the Catholic School Hall of Fame in November 2016.

Tim started his professional career at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases and later joined the George Washington University Hospital Operating Room team in Washington, D.C. Tim actively participated in mission assignments in Guatemala and Guyana. He enjoyed his healthcare career and being a small business owner in Historic Downtown Lumberton.

Applicants must submit a one page essay on why they should be selected, what they will do with the award, and how they will benefit academically from it.  Students must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and must plan to enroll full time at a college, university, or community college.

The scholarship is awarded every August.
