Lumberton Confectionary Supports Vonta Leach Foundation Event

On Saturday, June 29, 2013, Lumberton confectionery Sweet Candy Café, will participate in the 2013 Vonta Leach Youth Football & Cheer Camp, at Lumberton High School, from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Sweet Candy Café will donate specially prepared candy treat bags for more than 500 participating 6-16 year-old students.

Leach, a former Baltimore Ravens full back and Rowland, N.C. native, will join coaches at Lumberton High School to teach youth fundamental football and cheerleading skills in a structured setting. Event is sponsored by The Vonta Leach Foundation.

Felicia Evans Long, class of 1990 Lumberton High School graduate and owner of Sweet Candy Café, is thrilled to support the community event in the spirit of "giving back." Evans Long is active with various outreach programs and nonprofit organizations.

"The Vonta Leach Youth & Cheer Camp at Lumberton High School is a perfect platform for Sweet Candy Café to show how much we care for our community," says Evans Long. "We are super excited to participate."

Evans Long, her husband Tim Long and their candy store were officially welcomed by Lumberton Mayor Ray Pennington with a ribbon cutting ceremony on November 30, 2012, in Historic Downtown Lumberton. The grand opening was nearly derailed by an October 10, 2012 fire that destroyed several downtown businesses, including the Longs' previous retail space located at 310 N. Elm Street. The Longs rebuilt with the help of building owner, Richard "Dick" Taylor.

Sweet Candy Café is the sister company to Sweet Events and Planning, LLC, founded by Evans Long and her husband in 2008. She brings more than 12 years of event planning expertise and latest trends.

A customer favorite offered by Sweet Events and Planning at birthday parties, weddings and other celebratory events is the Sweet Events and Planning Signature Candy Parlor ™, a fun event conversation piece with various treats from old-fashioned Apothecary jars. The Signature Candy Parlor ™ is available to Sweet Candy Café customers planning an event.
