On August 17, 2016, Felicia Evans Long, founder of Sweet Candy Café located in Lumberton, N.C., awarded the 2nd Annual Timothy Rodney Long Memorial Scholarship to a senior student at Christ the King Preparatory Catholic School in Newark, N.J. The student will be awarded a $1000 scholarship to provide assistance for expenses incurred during the transition from high school to college.
Evans Long created the scholarship in memory of her husband, Timothy R. Long, Sweet Candy Café Co-founder and Essex Catholic High School Class of 1992 graduate. He passed away suddenly on August 17, 2014 in California.
Long credited Essex Catholic High School with shaping his life and helping him achieve his career goals. He started his professional career at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases and later joined the George Washington University Hospital Operating Room team in Washington, D.C. Long actively participated in mission assignments in Guatemala and Guyana. He enjoyed his healthcare career and being a small business owner in Historic Downtown Lumberton. Motivated by her husband’s zest for life, Evans Long continues building their companies, Sweet Candy Café and Sweet Events and Planning.
